About This Activity

Route E is a popular walking trail through the Upper Lakes section of Plitvice Lakes National Park, offering visitors a focused exploration of the park's most elevated lake system. Starting from Entrance 2 (the southern entrance), this 5.5 km circular route takes 2-3 hours to complete and is considered easy to moderate in difficulty.

The trail begins with a short boat ride across Lake Kozjak, then follows wooden boardwalks through the Upper Lakes area past some of the park's most impressive waterfalls. Highlights include the magnificent Veliki and Mali Prštavac waterfalls and the thundering Galovački Buk. The route passes through a chain of beautiful lakes including Burgeti, Galovac, and Okrugljak before reaching Prošćansko Lake, the park's highest and most remote lake.

After exploring the Upper Lakes, visitors take a panoramic electric train back to Entrance 2 — a slow, peaceful ride that offers additional photo opportunities through the surrounding beech and fir forests.

Route E is ideal for visitors who have already explored the Lower Lakes and want a quieter, less crowded experience. Note that this trail is often closed during winter due to heavy snowfall, though the route can be walked independently when boat and train services are suspended.
